About the Pilates Technique

Pilates is recommended by most local physicians and physiotherapists.

The pilates training method was created by Joseph Pilates and has been used by students and teachers for well over 60 years ago.

He drew a great deal of his understanding from eastern philosophies and their teachings, such as Yoga, Martial Arts, and the Feldenkreis method of breathing.

His technique is now used by most major ballet companies and ballet schools as well as professional athlete's, who use the technique for remedial and injury prevention work.

How does Pilates training work:

Pilates training is 100% tailored to your needs and through a structured program your body will become more agile, stronger and flexible.

Pilates exercises are gentle and taught through tactile, visual and verbal cues.

Pilates teaches:

Pilates teaches awareness of movement pattern, and with the tools of that awareness you can change bad muscular behaviour which causes discomfort. You will be able to change your body to new and better muscular pattern and learn to live and exercise without discomfort. These patterns include:

  • Breathing
  • Integrating the ribcage and shoulder girdle
  • Neutral alignment by maintaining the natural spine
  • Pelvic stability

Pilates exercises do not produce force on any ligaments, tendons and/or joints.

Benefits of Pilates are:

  • Less tension in most parts of the body
  • Better muscle tone
  • Improved posture
  • Sleeping better
  • A wider range of motion and mobility
  • Feeling more in touch with your body and mind
  • Feeling happier
  • Less mood swings
  • More flexibility
  • Better bone density
  • An overall feeling and sense of strength
    and elongation of your body
